10 Easy Last Minute World Book Day Costume Ideas

I love World Book Day and all the fun dressing up that comes with it.

However, at times it can be a little stressful trying to find a great costume that is either easy to make or cheap to buy. With that in mind I thought I’d put together a list of easy to throw together some easy last minute world book day costume ideas that the kids will love!

Where’s Wally?

All that’s needed here is a white and red striped jumper, a bobble hat and a pair of black rimmed glasses.

If you don’t have a stripy jumper then use some white tape on a red tshirt, or red tape on a white shirt to create some stripes.

The Boy In The Dress

This is a pretty easy one, all you do is put your boy in a dress and take along a football.

The Highway Rat

We create The Highway Rat outfit last year for a minimal cost. To make a cape we used an old tshirt and cut it into a cape. We made our own eye mask, found a hat from the dressing up box and painted on whiskers and hey presto!

Matilda

To transform your little on into this iconic character, you need a blue dress and a ribbon for her hair. And of course, no Matilda outfit is complete without a big bag of books!

George’s Marvellous Medicine

There really isn’t much needed for this outfit and something you really can put together on the morning of World Book Day. Raid the kitchen cupboard and give them a big saucepan and label it with ‘George’s Marvellous Medicine’.

Burglar Bill

Props needed to come up with your Burglar Bill or Burglar Betty guise include a stripy tshirt, a black hat and a bandit eye mask. Don’t forget your swag bag and fill it with scrunched up paper so that it’s not too heavy.

Harry Potter

Transform into Harry Potter using black rimmed glasses, face paint to recreate the scar, a black cape and a white shirt. Create a magic wand using a stick.

Mary Poppins

This is a great costume idea put together by Umeandthekids. It’s simple and most of the clothing should be easy to get hold of.

Paddington Bear

This might need a little more effort if you haven’t got all the props to hand, however, no sewing is guaranteed. Get a light blue duffel coat, or a long blue coat and create a tag using some cardboard. Find a red rain hat, some wellington boots, a small suitcase (a lunch box will do) and a jar full of marmalade to turn into the friendly Peruvian bear.
